Market Vendor Application FAQ

Our goal is to support farmers, artisans, and small businesses through the hosting of various marketplaces. The Farmers Markets that you are registering for are intended as spaces where the focus is locally grown food, business and products. All vendors are accepted to the Market at the discretion of the Frankenmuth Farmers Market Board.

Markets will be held each Saturday from June 7, 2025, to September 9, 2025. There is also an option to vend on Saturday, October 11, 2025. The daily fee will be $30, due on each day of the market. This fee includes 1 - 10 x 10 spaces with parking behind your stall. Applications are typically reviewed within two weeks. Following the application review, if your application is accepted, we will reach out with your vendor welcome packet.

Frankenmuth Farmers Market Rules

Market table fees must be paid one week in advance. Seasonal applications are welcome.

Rain or Shine – The Market is held outdoors rain or shine. We may close for storms with lightning or severe wind. If your product is sensitive to rain, please discuss this with the Market Manager so that we know about your intentions on rain days ahead of time.

No-Shows, Leaving Early, and Attendance – FFM cannot allow vendors to leave early unless there are exceptional circumstances. Selling out of product (IS AWESOME! but) does not count as a reason to close the booth early. In order to present a full market, it is important to give customers the impression that you are there for them. Keep your vendor stalls occupied when the market is in session so we can present a lively and active market from start to finish. For that same reason, it is important that you give the Market Master good notice when you cannot attend as scheduled. We love our vendors and are willing to work hard for you, but do know that after two “no call/no show” occurrences on Market days, you may be subject to removal from the Market without a refund.

FFM volunteers will open the Market to sales at 8:00 AM.  To be fair to all vendors, no early sales are allowed.

FFM expects all vendors and employees to act courteously.  Please remember to keep all interactions respectful and refrain from profanity.  No shouting or hawking is allowed.  If mediation is required, please approach the Market Manager or  for assistance. And we can leave the marketplace to discuss the issue.

Vendors, their agents, and employees shall not disparage, demean, or make negative comments about other vendors, products, or the Market itself.  Conduct meant to harm someone’s reputation and/or business will not be tolerated.  This includes comments made on all social media outlets.

No smoking is allowed on Market property.

Vendors are expected to clean their stall area at the end of the day.  All displays, tents and trash/debris must be removed.

Management reserves the right to amend Market rules and regulations at any time.  Amendments will be made in writing and will become effective immediately.

FOOD PROGRAM GUIDELINES

When the FFM is approved to accept SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks, WIC Project Fresh, Senior Project/Market Fresh and Power of Produce, all eligible vendors are required to apply to accept these additional forms of payment.  Please contact the Market Manager for more information.  Until applications are accepted and approved, vendors cannot accept these additional types of payment.  There will be a 5% processing fee applied to token processing.

SALES REPORTING

The Frankenmuth Farmers Market is a non-profit entity.  We are continually seeking funding for our Market through grants and other opportunities.  Granting agencies and foundations require information about our Market to be able to assist us.  Two pieces of information that are consistently required are the income generated through the Market by our vendors, as well as customer counts.  It is vital to the health of the market that vendors do not downplay their sales numbers.  As a vendor in our Market, you are required to report your gross sales at the end of every market day.  This information is collected in a strictly anonymous manner.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why does the Market want a copy of my liability insurance?

Although FFM recommends insurance, it is not required.  It protects FFM and the vendor from liability claims from injuries and illness.

Why are early sales not allowed?

We want all vendors to have an equal chance at sales.  Those selling early have an unfair advantage over those vendors who set up at the agreed-upon time.  Early selling interrupts the setup of displays and can create physical hazards for other vendors carrying in products and also for customers.

Why are farm inspections required?

FFM accepts multiple payment methods, including many state and federal government nutrition programs.  These programs require us to validate that the farmer accepting funds indeed grows their products and grows them in Michigan.  Inspections can occur anytime during the year.  You will be contacted prior to our visit to coordinate an appointment.

What can growers sell?

The market allows for three types of produce.  The categories are Home Grown, Locally Grown, and Resale produce.

What does that mean?

  • Home Grown

  • Produce farmers grow at their own farms or systems

  • Locally Grown

  • Produce farmers may bring to market from other Michigan-based farms or items foraged in Michigan.

  • Resale

  • Produce that has been purchased from a wholesaler.

RESALE GUIDELINES

Produce intended to be purchased for resale must be discussed with the market manager before it is purchased to ensure we are allowing that particular item(s) to be sold at the market.

Resale produce is not eligible for reimbursement through any of the nutrition programs except Power of Produce and FRESH (Food and Recipes Encouraging Senior Health.)

Any resale product should not create harmful competition with other growers’ own crops of the same type.
